Below Are a Few Questions From Your Upcoming PSI State Exam:

1. A section of OSHA requires the placement of a ___ device on an energy-isolating device, in accordance with an established procedure, ensuring that the energy-isolating device and the equipment being controlled cannot be operated until the ___ device is removed.

  • Correct Answer: lockout OSHA – 1926.417, 1910.417(B)(3) – Lockout and tagging of circuits.

2. What would be the calculated general lighting load for a 2,600 sq-ft home that includes the following: 38 general use receptacles, ten 100-watt lighting fixtures?

  • Correct Answer: Simply use “220.14(J) General Lighting Loads by Occupancy”. 2,600 sq-ft x 3 VA/sq-ft = 7,800 VA.
  • ***This question is NOT asking for the total service load; IF so, then include the following:
    • Note_1: Per 220.14(I), Receptacle Outlets are calculated at 180 VA/receptacle = 38 x 180 VA = 6,840 VA.
    • Note_2: Per 220.14(D) Luminaires are calculated at maximum volt-ampere rating = 10 x 200 Watts = 2,000 VA.
